‘Rewriting the Ihme-Zentrum: Exploring Fiction Writing as a Method of Knowledge Creation in Architecture‘ is the title of my Master Thesis in Design Research, completed in March 2025. It concluded an intense period of applied research on site of the Ihme-Zentrum in Hannover and at my theory-ridden desk in Leipzig.
The thesis blends writing styles, theorizes and creates, delving deep into possible futures and epistemology, all revolving around one concrete building: the Ihme-Zentrum. A post-war megastructure from the 70s, now failed by many, it is a testament of our past dreams, changing times and views on the built environment. For this thesis is became my object of investigation and admiration, my playground, conversation partner and facilitator of many encounters.
