In 2024 a research project was launched on the theme of post-industrial landscapes in the town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen as part of the Bauhaus Study Rooms, which ultimately resulted in an article for the platform Atlas do Chão.
‘Atlas do Chão – Ground Atlas’ is an online platform that maps locations around the world that have a special relationship with the ground.
The chemical legacy in the groundwater and river sediments of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, as well as its infrastructural consequences, are the subject of the article, which was published in November 2025. In it, we trace the history of a specific chemical produced at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical park – lindane – and how this substance continues to affect the area around the town to this day, for example in the form of chemically contaminated wild boars.
